- Indirect inguinal hernia
- Direct inguinal hernia
- Femoral hernia
- Incisional hernia
- Obturator hernia
The commonest hernia in females is Indirect inguinal hernia.
Indirect inguinal hernias can occur in both males and females, but they are more common in males. In females, indirect inguinal hernias can sometimes be mistaken for other conditions or can be less frequently diagnosed than in males. However, they are still the most common type of hernia in females.
To briefly explain the options:
Direct inguinal hernias are less common and typically occur in older individuals, both in males and females.
Femoral hernias are more common in females than in males but are less common overall compared to indirect inguinal hernias.
Incisional hernias occur at the site of a previous surgical incision and can affect both males and females but are not as common as indirect inguinal hernias.
Obturator hernias are relatively rare and occur through the obturator foramen, also known as the pelvic outlet. They are more common in elderly, thin females but are still less common than indirect inguinal hernias.
